Li E Chen: Whisper Residency
4 – 18 May 2009
On Thursday 14 May and Saturday 16 May, Li E Chen will open her studio to the public to perform a new Live Art work created during her Whisper Residency. Li E is an interdisciplinary artist and the creative director/founder of JUMP+. Li E used the 360 hours of the residency for rehearsal and performance, to explore and challenge how complexity can arise from the interplay of simple series and create an interactive Live Art work. Inspired by numerical series, binary codes and ‘class signs’, all based on the concepts of “incompleteness” and “uncertainty” developed by 20th century mathematician Kurt Gödel, Li E wishes to show how this interplay creates an “atmosphere” of uncertainty that permeates in Live Art and the dynamic nature of contemporary society. Based on the formula n=human, Li E will ask each audience member to write their name on the wall. The following performance is an investigation into the p theory and its relationship to the infinite within the natural world.
