In light of the challenges faced by the commercial market and the global economic downturn the exhibition poses the question: What kind of institution do we need for the future? It seeks to explore this through archives and projects by artists and collectives who have been investigating potential new models for institutions and how art production might operate at a local level, whilst at the same time contributing to an international dialogue. The artists and collectives presented have invested in their local artistic communities in Asia, which over the last ten years have seen drastic change, and actively explore the role of art in society. Within this specific context and situation Institution for the Future will contribute to the international dialogue around what kind of institution is needed in Asia today.
