Chen Man: University of Leeds

16 October – 15 December 2013

The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery (University of Leeds) was proud to host the work of contemporary photographer Chen Man, as part of CFCCA’s touring exhibition programme. Chen Man is a rising star in the Chinese art and fashion photography world. After studying at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Chen Man shot to fame when she collaborated with China’s first progressive arts magazine, Vision. Today her work features regularly in Chinese Vogue and Elle magazine, amongst others. Chen Man’s stunning, hyper-real images were shown at CFCCA (formerly Chinese Arts Centre), Manchester in her first UK solo exhibition between February – April 2012. Selected works from this show were exhibited in Leeds. This exhibition was specially showcased as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of East Asian Studies at the University of Leeds. Founded as the Department of Chinese Studies in 1963, the department has since expanded to include Mongolian, Japanese, Thai, South East Asian and Asia-Pacific Studies.
