Will Kwan: Breathe Residency
3 September – 23 November 2013
Will Kwan moved from Hong Kong to Canada aged 4, and now lives and works in Toronto. Kwan’s work playfully articulates sharp cultural observations through the language of conceptual art, taking particular interest in global economies and infrastructures. During his residency he explored social, architectural, and visual conditions of post-industrial Manchester, a landscape he saw as ‘hollowed out into shells for the so-called “new economy”, a corporate euphemism for a non-productive system of consumerism, spectacle, and financial speculation’.
