30 Years of CFCCA | Cao Fei

CFCCA co-commissioned the film Haze and Fog in collaboration with the University of Salford and Vitamin Creative Space. Haze and Fog was the first work to enter our unique collection of Chinese contemporary art, jointly held with the University of Salford. Exhibited in the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015, Cao Fei’s atmospheric La Town takes us on a tour of an alternate reality modelled on our own, constructed from miniature models handmade by the artist herself. Cao Fei’s 40 minute film references cinematic classics like Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather and Hiroshima Mon Amour by Marguerite Duras, blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction. In 2016, CFCCA celebrates its 30 year anniversary with a high profile exhibition programme spanning 6 months featuring some of the very best Chinese contemporary artists of today.
